My Project for Canvas Corp Brands 'Family Challenge' - Memorial Flip Book

Hello Friends :)

Today I want to share with you a project I made as a gift for my Mother on Memorial Day. It is a little flip book with photos of my Grandmother. We all miss Grandma Grace and I wanted to make something you could hold and look at to remember her. There are not many photos of her around. When I knew her she was camera shy and wouldn't let you take many pictures. Photos of her when she was younger and her 10 children were small were all destroyed in a house fire. So, what we do have is very precious. The photos I used in this project were printed on my printer using scans of a few existing photos. Don't freak out archivists..LOL..these are copies! Not originals. I think my little book turned out pretty nice and I think my Mom will love it.
So why a flip book you ask? Well a couple of reasons. One is that I was watching a video on Youtube from Yva Lovee Arts channel...and I saw an absolutely adorable flip book she made. I was intrigued by the way it flipped open then flipped again for more pages. It is a very simple concept...but I do not think I would have come up with it. I would have made a'book' that the pages turned instead. So thanks to Yva for the inspiration :) The other reason is there is a blog link up and contest going on over at Canvas Corp Brands blog called the  'Family Challenge'. It is all about using their products to make something all about family. I am on the design team for CCB and I thought it was a perfect opportunity to make my little gift using the products I have from them. That two birds one stone thing :) I really enjoyed ripping into the mixed paper pack I used. The paper was all great quality and lots of variety as well. And of course I always use their mists. Great colors and shimmer options. If you want to enter the 'family challenge' too...here is the link. Click on the 'click here' to take you there :)

What I did for #LoveSummerArt Art Crawl

Hello Friends :)
Remember that I said I was going to try to keep my blog current with my Youtube? Well I am trying and trying! Not sure I am doing that well...oh well. This last week I was  crazy trying to make as many project videos as I could for a couple reasons. One..there was a art crawl event May 18-22 hosted by the Creative Arts Collaboration. #lovesummerart I missed last month's art crawl event due to medical issues with my Mom and I wanted to try to participate in this month's! The other reason was that I am going our of town for a week, so I wanted to 'get ahead' with videos. I would like to stay consistent with sharing stuff on a regular basis...but that is tricky when you are away from your studio. I can't see me doing on location... out of control... nostril cam videos LOL So, being the crazy person I am..I thought I would cover by doing lots of videos ahead, and scheduling them to come out while I am gone. So, far, I have got a few scheduled but it is trickier then I thought! It seems family actually needs/wants my attention (who knew?)  So I am here on the blog today to share with you what I at least accomplished for the #lovesummerart art crawl event :)

My first project was a art journal page about how the sun is the biggest factor for summer here in Arizona. It is huge actually..lol..as you can see on my art journal page. I also threw in some of the Arizona classic Saguaro cactus. They grow all over where I live. Tall and majestic... standing on the hills.

In the video version...I actually SANG the lyrics on the page. What was I thinking?

My second project was a shout out to Armed Forces Day and also an attempt to make an altered playing card. I am in a Facebook group where the altered playing card is the focus and I had yet to make one. My lame excuse is that I had no cards that were not being use to actually play card games..lol. I finally purchased a pack at the dollar store and now I have some to use. So, I made a Air Force girl as a nod to my family's involvement with that branch of the military. She is a pretty serious chick..don't mess with her :)

My third and final project for the event was a fun mixed media piece canvas featuring the famous summer standard, the flip flop sandal. You just can't have summer without flip flops :) My flip flops are stranded on the desk with the towel, sun lotion, and glasses, while I take a dip in the pool :) I plan to seal this one with pouring medium..but am a bit scared to open that bottle! Maybe when I return from visiting the Oregon coast next week with my best friend :)

This canvas took awhile..so I broke up the process into two videos...each around 20 minutes long.

Part #1

Part #2

I hope you have all been enjoying the beginning of summer and are planning some relaxation!
Thanks for visiting my blog :) Please leave a comment so I know you were here.

Clean Your Desk Tag and a Curvy Mermaid Tag

Hello Friends :)

I must tell you that my studio is a mess and I don't want to clean it up. The inner child in me is just having a tantrum every time I think about cleaning and organizing! I thought that 'Spring Cleaning' was a real thing. That I would get the urge to purge. Nonsense! I have been hoarding every little colorful bit of paper and scraps I can..lol Well I decided to try and clean one little shelf that is right above my desk. A place where I just stick stuff that is leftover from various projects. I challenged myself to make something pretty out of that clutter! Well, my first project is a collage tag and I think it came out pretty well so I made another :) See below

While I was editing the video I decided to do some Shout outs to some fun and creative art channels as well. So if you watch, be sure to go check them out and give them some love!

My next tag is made from a experimental tag I had in my desk pile I think it was trying out some home made modeling paste to see if it worked...it did. And it has something water soluble on it that is very shimmery so I am guessing maybe it is Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist experiments perhaps. There was also a piece of scrap text weight paper on the desk so I started a sketch of a mermaid. Why a mermaid you ask? Well, I am in this Facebook group where you are supposed to make a mermaid a month for a year..and I have yet to make one specifically for that. So here she is!

If you are actually here reading my blog post then you deserve a special gift. If you like this Curly Mermaid and you would like to make something with her...here is a link to my downloadable sketch.

The sketch is by no means perfect. The line weights are a bit wonky in places. But feel free to use it as a coloring page or in your mixed media. Of course...please give credit if you post it or video it...to not do that would be hurtful to me.

Thanks for visiting my blog and please leave me a comment so I know you were here!

Rainbow Canvas Collaboration with Canvas Corp Creative Crew Members

Hi Friends :)

Today I am sharing a collaboration I did with some members of the Canvas Corp Brands Creative Crew. If you have been following along you know that I was welcomed to this design team in January. Some of the members have Youtube channels and so decided to do a little collaboration using the Canvas Corp Brands products. The theme was 'Rainbow'. A pretty easy one considering the massive amount of products there are at Canvas Corp in rainbow colors! So, I used some 7 Gypsies patterned paper and some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists to make a mixed media canvas. (colors listed below) I hope you like it !

There are videos available for the other collaborators as well :) Check out how they handled the 'rainbow' theme!

Another collaboration group of videos were released on May 10th with the same theme :)

It is Really Me - My 4X4 Canvas for Canvas Corp Brands

Hi Friends :)

I am sharing a project today that I really think represents me and my style. Those of you who follow me know the story about what my family says... 'I can make anything'. And I do ...I am all over the place! I keep trying new things and blending them with old things. I do challenges and collaborations that push me out of my true comfort zone. I like to expand my artsy knowledge and skills whenever I can. But.... Canvas Corp Brands Creative Crew asked me to make a 4X4 inch canvas that represents ME and my personality. So..this is what I came up with!

I started out with some collage on the background using some Canvas Corp brands printed tissue as well as some music tissue and book text from my stash.

Then I applied varied bright colors of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists using the plastic piece inside the sprayer as a brush. I blended the colors with white gesso and my finger.

Next I created the focal image by cutting  varied Canvas Corp Brands papers and fabrics into heart shapes. I used more Glimmer Mists to color up the hearts. The paper packs they sell always have a variety of printed cardstocks, corrugated paper, burlap and canvas fabric. They are so fun to use. Even the words came from a sheet of scrapbooking paper from 7 Gypsies.
I finished up the detailing on the canvas using my trusty and well loved Posca pens from Uni. Can't go wrong with those!

I had a lot of fun making this project and I really think it shows who I am... or maybe who I want to be. Colorful, bold, a little topsy turvy and unpredictable with layers of texture ;)

Glimmer Mist Colors Used - Its Yellow (starter kit primary) Its Orange, Party Pink, Turquoise Blue, Moss (from starter kit bringhts) Dragonfly (from calendar kit cruisin) purple, Lime Light, Cherry,
Amethyst.

If you love my canvas as much as I do..leave me a comment!
