Hello Friends and Desk Hoppers :)
It is once again Wednesday and time to run around the Internet visiting desks all around the world. If you think that sounds fun don't hesitate to hop on over to Stamping Ground and check it out. Today my desk is a disaster! I have been playing catch up for all the art things I committed to...Lifebook, DLP, Journal52, 365 Days, etc. I got a bit behind so I have been creating like crazy!
Once of the projects I just finished is my week 7 page for Journal52. The prompt was Valentines. I was thinking about a tag I made for my swap partner for February with the same theme. When I made this tag I was gigglesnorting the whole time (It is a thing!) Then when my person posted the tag a few days ago I gigglesnorted some more! So, I decided I wanted to keep a version for myself and so my Journal52 art journal seemed like the perfect synchronicity.

When I made this tag I was gigglesnorting the whole time (It is a thing!) Then when my person posted the tag a few days ago I gigglesnorted some more! So, I decided I wanted to keep a version for myself and so my Journal52 art journal seemed like the perfect synchronicity.
As I started out my page I didn't have the photo of the tag (found it on my phone after I was done) so I couldn't remember what I did. So I just went with my favorite stand by...collage layering. I used whatever was close by my hand ..as in scraps on my desk. I didn't think about it really..just got out my liquid medium and went to town.
My usual next step of this process would be to even out the layers of collage by brayering white gesso or another acrylic over the top...but I decided instead to use my Gelli plate. I went with 2 colors of pink and then white on the plate and then ran my favorite heart wheel stamp over the plate to make a pattern in it (remember wash that acrylic off your stamps right away!)
Before the acrylic dried I went over the 3 deli paper hearts and removed some of the paint as I wanted those to be eventually part of the design.
Next I was thinking I had used some rectangles on the original tag, so I got out my rectangle stencil and put on some texture paste through it using a palette knife.
While that was drying, I sketched my figure on the opposite side of the page. I painted over her with white gesso and then added color to her using water soluble crayons and blending with acrylic paint. Then I went over the lines again with a black paint marker.
Next I added my saying in the top heart and then went all scribble crazy with my black and white paint pens. To finish off I added some black ink around the edges with a sponge and also drug my pink ink pad across the raised areas of the texture paste. Then I added a bit of stamping using a dark purple ink.
Here are some close ups :)
I hope you enjoyed my project. Leave me a comment if you did!
<3 Shel

Thank you Eliza and your adorable kitty ;) I had fun doing them.
DeleteLovely pink page! I just had a challenge stress at the beginning of this week, because the weekend flew by unexpectidle without normal crafty time... So horrid! I always have trouble with collage...but perhaps I would find it easier, if I told myself I'll cover it all up with gesso and paints :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit
Kristiina #10
Thanks Kristina :) Yes, the beauty of mixed media is that you always can cover up what you don't like and then say.." its layering!" :)

DeleteI love watching the "process" - thanks! And the tag truly is priceless! Thanks for visiting! Lindart #55 (PS- the hearts on my card are actually raised, each one a little higher than the last. So the shading is natural!)
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda and I thought that card was really cool :)
DeleteIs 'gigglesnorting' in the dictionary? If not it should be - what a super word. Sums the action up perfectly.
ReplyDeleteLove the page you crated and thanks for the step by step demonstration - might pinch some of those ideas.
Hugs, Neet 26 xx
Hmm..I am guessing not in the dictionary but maybe it can make it to the urban one if we all use it..lol..thanks for stopping by and feel free to use whatever :)
DeleteThat is so pretty what a lot of detail went into making your page up :) and the pliers are beading ones somehow they always are in use on my desk used them yesterday after I took apart my computer and had to bend back a tab had to vacuum out out the fans, with all the dust from the house reno it sounds clogged. (it was around 12:30 here) when I lucked out on getting number 1 btw

ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit and hope you have a productive week, Angela x 34
Thank you Angela :) Currently I have a list clipped to my shelf and am enjoying crossing each thing off lol. A calendar might be more useful though ...well except I would have to doodle on it and paint it and make it pretty which would be another project lol.
