Tag It Tuesday Link Party

Hi Friends,

Today my friend Sheri over a Cards and More by Sheri is hosting her once a month linky party for altered tags, Of course I want to play so I made a tag for this event :) If you like making altered tags I suggest you link up to her blog too every third Tuesday of the month :)  This month the theme was about all things love. Here is my tag...

I started out with a manilla tag size 3" X 7" and some ink sprays. Dylusions and Heidi Swapp. Fuchsia, Grape, and Gold colors. I randomly spritzed them on the tag (and all over myself and everything on the desk as usual :)

Next I sketched a face and hair with graphite (well half a face) and painted the skin area with white gesso. I intensified the sketch and then started painting strips of color in the hair. I used a variety of craft and artist acrylic paints.

When the hair was completely painted, I painted the face areas. I used a combination of water soluble crayons and white acrylic paint.

Then I sketched over my line with a black paint pen to make them stand out more.

Now for the fun. I used white and black pen to doodle in the colored stripes of hair. I drew hearts and squiggles and dots and lines. I decided I wanted more bling though. So I added in some gold areas with my new sharpie water based gold poster pen. I also added a spritz of the gold ink spray at the bottom of the tag for balance.

My final steps were to add my quote using the black pen (still hate my writing but I am trying)  I mounted the whole tag on shimmery gold cardstock and trimmed the edge with wave scissors. I added a heart shaped grommet and threaded ribbon and fibers through the hole.

I hope you enjoyed my project and will consider joining Sheri's link party with your own altered tag!

  4. Great color choices! It is amazing how much sketching over you pencil lines, with your black pen, makes the image pop out. I love all different colors and the intricate designs in her hair! Showing only part of her face is clever! Well done!

    1. Thank you Peggy. It was fun to do. I have seen others make their journaling in the hair so that gave me the idea.
