Pick-a-Stick Challenge April

Hi Bloggy Friends :)

I have challenged myself to try and make my blog keep up with my Youtube channel. We shall see it it actually happens..LOL. Today I wanted to tell you about the April Pick-A-Stick Challenge. In January four of us  (#fab4creates) started this adventure by planning a challenge for the year and then setting up a Facebook Group for the people who want to play along each month.

Our challenge is this. We each made a container of some sort full of prompts. Things you would use on a journal page like 'use a die cut' or 'write in wet gesso'. Then at the first Friday of each month one of us picks 10 sticks and challenges the group to finish a page or canvas using the prompts. The only rules are you have to do the prompts in order and use all 10. How you interpret them is up to you! You can also add other stuff that you think is needed to complete your project.

We have seen AMAZING creativity during this challenge. There are somewhere around 230 members of the group so far and they are turning out great art! Some even make videos about their process so we can watch them. I am loving this :)

On the last Friday of the month the four of us put out our own process videos for the monthly challenge. Some of mine have been pretty...others more like a hot mess LOL. That is the nature of following the fate of the sticks! Today my video for April comes out using these prompts...

And this is how my page turned out :) I love it!

Watch the video of my process here

Come on over to the facebook group and join us for the monthly challenge! We would love to see what you come up with :)

A Wedding Card - Recollections Collections

Hi Friends,

Recently I received this amazing invitation to a wedding reception. It was basically a 5" X 8" looked like a gorgeous dimensional scrapbook layout! It had lace and burlap and die cut flowers with button centers... the photos were matted with beautiful paper that looked aged. Really cool...but..flat. It is amazing how far digital scrapbooking has come. It is also intreresting how companies all industry are using the 'scrap style' to sell their products. Well..maybe I am really old fashioned...but I still like to make my own cards and pages and art. I like to get my fingers all messy and sticky with glue. I like to cut things out and stick them on. I know..crazy right???  Here is the card I made to send a little gift as I cannot attend the party. I chose my colors and design ideas from the invitation...and added my own style :)

Lets start with the invitation....

This is the invite and a close up of the corner decoration. The post it notes are to protect the innocent people who don't know I am using their invitation on my blog & Youtube

I had these lovely Recollections brand papers and  stamp set that can be purchased at Michael's stores
. (I received these for free so I could try them out and talk about it) I thought the style and colors would be a PERFECT match for the design of my wedding card so I decided to use them in my project.

I started out by using the Recollections stamps. The set is intended for making monograms. It has 2 sizes of alphabets in a fancy style as well as some flourishes and round boarders. It also has a round wooded handle. The stamps have a locking system on the back to attach them to the mounts so you can mix and match. It is an interesting set up and worked well.

Once I had my stamping done, I moved on to the papers. I LOVE this piece of printed cardstock from the Recollections mixed media paper pack and wanted to feature it. I used some dark green cardstock to set off the paper and also coordinate with the green truck and green shirts in the photo. I also had some canvas and burlap from the pack as well as a 5" X 5" craft colored card and some off white cardstock. These mixed media paper packs are pretty versatile with lots of different types of materials in them.

I cut the layers to fit into a 6" X 6" envelope I had in my stash, and then layered them up with some lace from my stash as well.

Next I started embellishing the card I planned to addi as the top layer. I used some more of that gorgeous printed cardstock as a torn layer on the card. I also cut out a ticket from a sheet of the printed cardstock included in the pack. (note there is a ticket looking element on the invitation) I used some vintage photo ink around the edges to age everything.

I cut and frayed some of the canvas and burlap I had from the paper well as a piece of the corrugated paper. I punched a out some little flowers from the papers. I used distress inks around everything with my ink applicator.

Then I started layering and glueing everything on. I rounded the edges of the monogram I had stamped and attached it with foam tape for some dimension. I also added some aged copper brads for a metal detail.

I used a little sack/envelope from Recollections on the inside flap of the card so that I can add a little money gift. I embellished the sack with a scrap of the green and the other stamped image I had made. I also lined the inside with some of the off white and added some more punched flowers.

I hope you enjoyed this little project made with Recollections products from Michael's stores.
If you did..leave me a comment :)

A Big Catch All of Catch Up....

Hi Friends :)

Wow am I a bad blogger or what? It has been awhile since my last ...confession? So today I am going to try and catch up. That is not ketchup! But catch up with all I have been doing :) Well, if you know me at all you know I have been frantically trying to be a Youtube creative content maker. Since my last confession my channel has grown and grown...and I feel very obligated to make those videos for those people! That is a very good thing...and a kinda bad thing in some ways. I am one of those very contrary creative type people. If there is a deadline or an sort of crushes my mojo! My muse runs and hides in her cloud somewhere and I lay about and complain. So though I am trying to do it ALL I am getting only half of what I planned to do DONE!
That being said..I did go on a trip to Washington state for 9 days. Very pretty and inspiring there!

Also some family friends came to visit and so I got to rediscover some of the beauty of where I live as well.

The second picture was created with a really cool ap called Dianasap on my iphone. It creates a double exposure for you from photos in your camera roll. Super fun!

For the rest of my time (when not making excuses for why I can't do what I am supposed to) ....I have been creating art. Of course :)

There have been fairies with no boots....

Mermaids with teenager attitude...

Springy bunny challenges...

And even a mixed media guy face!

And yesterday I had a really fulfilling Gelli printing session and I have a video for that too!
 (shocking I know :)

So look for me mostly on my Youtube channel these days. Tomorrow is a fun new project coming out that has been in the works for a few months. And I will be doing some videos with those prints I made. There is a new Pick-a-Stick challenge and other challenges I will be doing. And some fun things like mermaids and altered playing cards for Facebook groups I have joined. Collaborations with other Youtubers and designing for Canvas Corp. You know..all the fun stuff :)
